'Jobs v environment' myth goes down in flames

I was glad to see the coal-eating surrender monkeys failed to have California’s alternative energy targets delayed. Despite financial support from Texas oil companies fro Proposition 23, it seems Californians weren’t fooled by the idiot’s parable that ‘failing to act on climate change’ means ‘protecting jobs’. 61% were convinced these measures would in fact create employment. Even conservative counties voted it down
Hopefully its the beginning of the end for the 'jobs v environment' myth. Time to kill it off!

Hark! The sugggestion box bells!

Now dont me wrong - I quite agree there's nothing cooler in all Christendom than a Star fort. (Oh look, its Fortboutange from the air: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Fortbourtange.jpg)

Its just that Pav said this really weird thing to me recently, and I quote:

"since there are only so many forts to go around, I think you should expand your horizons. There are all sorts of things quotidian and other on which I for one would like to read your views."

Well, as you can imagine, I couldnt have been more stunned if a Bourgogne Countess had knocked on the Solor fortgate offering mille-feuille. But it got me thinking.....

maybe Ill just blog about stuff im reading, and like, DVDs Im watching. Diary style. for my own narrow self-interested purposes (viz, I have a lousy memory for what Ive watched late at night, sicne Im normally tired.)

Exciting pitch, no?

OK, it may not be bastion-worthy, but I'm intrigued.

You could call it your "webdiary"...

Im thinking of keeping the BmL themescape - so tried and true. After all, the same 5 people keep dropping in. Ive really mastered the no-growth formula. People concerned about inflationary demand pressures should really come see me.

Obviously, it would be foolhardy of me to rulle out future forts. But I dunno, maybe the schtick is up.

anyhoo, from memory - film based threads have often jostled a few comments out of passing punteros.

Perhaps hold back the celebrating until the impact of Prop 26 is evident (http://caivn.org/article/2010/11/10/prop-26-could-neutralize-defeat-prop-23)...

Thanks Alanjae - thats importnat info I wasnt aware of.

One thing about this debate: opponents of climate action rarely employ open tactics of promoting debate. They prefer confusion, subterfuge, muddying waters, sneaking.

Its suggests to me they know full well they’re in the wrong: they just hate the implications of acting - more than they fear the consequences of not doing so.

Its not a position of “good faith” in other words. Its rather a powerful defence of entrenched interests we can no longer afford to tolerate.

IIRC, industries affected by Prop23 actually funnelled significantly more money into the passage of Prop26 than 23.
Sorry I can't be more specific on the origins of that statement though - I may have read that on the Centre for Media and Democracy's website. Or perhaps not?!
